Collections Care

At Museum Textile Services we specialize in helping small museums and historical societies take control of their textile collections. Our customized collections survey is tailored to the needs of your institution, whether you require a general overview of the museum or a detailed examination of a particular aspect of your collection. Collections surveys are equally important for new and tiny museums as they are for larger institutions seeking grants and project support on a national level.

After we visit your site and examine your collection, we provide you with a detailed survey report. This report can include:
  • A summary of your institution's collection and site conditions
  • Annotated digital photographs of your buildings and textiles
  • Recommendations for upgrading storage areas
  • Guidance on exhibiting and interpreting your collection
  • Detailed conservation reports for textiles that need conservation

Once your collections survey is complete, Museum Textile Services will help you prioritize the needs of your museum. Working with your staff and volunteers, we provide project management and hands-on training to make even large projects feasible.
