The MTS Summer Program in Collections Care and Preventive Conservation
The all-new MTS Summer Program is a free, 13-week program that offers an introduction into textiles care and conservation in preparation for further education in museum studies or art conservation. Participants will work under the supervision of conservation staff to gain experience in textile analysis, handling, photography, documentation, writing, storage, mounting, hand stitching, and public outreach. There will be opportunities to observe advanced conservation treatment techniques, write a blog, create a weaving and stitching portfolio, construct an archival box, and do a final presentation of your experience to our staff. Participants must commit to a one day per week for 13 weeks; 7 weeks in the studio and 6 weeks remote. Applicants should be pre-professionals with an understanding of conservation, museum collections, and textiles. Summer participants are unpaid but will receive a travel reimbursement of $250 upon completion of the program. Credit also may be available through your institution. Museum Textile Services has been training museum professionals since 1999, and we are committed to creating opportunities to support a future of cultural diversity, gender and race equality, and economic opportunity in museums.
